Wings Of Death is a shootem up, developed by Eclipse Software and published by Thalion Software, for the Commodore Amiga and Atari ST and STE in 1990. (2 Disks). The game offered great action along with some special graphics and sound techniques developed by Thalion teams.
Wings Of DeathYou take the role of Sagyr the magician and you travel through multiple levels to avenge Xandrilia a cruel witch who transformed you into a creature that can change to a dragon, a griffon and an eagle (when you collect power-ups). Sagyr wants to return to his human nature, after destroying her. The game features seven levels of great action being one of the best shoot em ups for the two 16 bit home computers. You may find five totally different weapon systems plus additional bolt-on weaponry (Hunter, Destroyer, Shield, Auto-fire, etc.). Note that there are fifteen bonus types to collect. Each one is picked up as a power-up of the body of a dead enemy! Note that some may harm you i.e. by decreasing your power! The success of this game, made the programmers to develop a sequel under the title Lethal Xcess in 1991, where you return to take revenge once more.

The Amiga version was ported from the ST but with a few quite nice enhancements . Graphics are pretty and it features over 1 megabyte of graphics detail and up to 95 objects on the screen simultaneously (note that the STE version uses Blitter chip too, and thus more sprites move on screen compared to the ST version)! Each screen on the Amiga versions use more than 20+ using copper effects. Note that Eclipse Software teams used new sync-scrolling techniques for the ST and STE computers (can switch from 50 to 60Hz) and thus the game's scrolling speed increased quite a lot (Amiga version is smoother though without the need of such a technique!).
Soundwise the game is exceptional. I really liked the great music score at the intro screen and also the in-game tunes (each level has its own) written by the famous Jochen Hippel, speech synthesis and digitized sound effects. Note that, the Amiga's version stereo 4-channel sound is noticeable when listening the in-game SFX and music simultaneously (in contrast to the ST/STE versions which sacrifice a music channel when SFX occur).

Amiga 500/500+CPU: Motorola MC68000 7.16 MHz
MEMORY: 512KB of Chip RAM (OCS chipset - A500), 512 KB of Slow RAM or Trapdoor RAM can be added via the trapdoor expansion, up to 8 MB of Fast RAM or a Hard drive can be added via the side expansion slot. The ECS chipset (A500+) offered 1MB on board to 2MB (extended) of Chip RAM.
GRAPHICS: The OCS chipset (Amiga 500) features planar graphics (codename Denise custom chip), with up to 5 bit-planes (4 in hires), allowing 2, 4, 8, 16 and 32 color screens, from a 12bit RGB palette of 4096 colors. Resolutions varied from 320x256 (PAL, non-interlaced, up to 4096 colors) to 640x512 (interlace, up to 4 colors). Two special graphics modes where also included: Extra Half Bright with 64 colors and HAM with all 4096 colors on-screen. The ECS chipset models (Amiga 500+) offered same features but also extra high resolution screens up to 1280x512 pixels (4 colors at once).
SOUND: (Paula) 4 hardware-mixed channels of 8-bit sound at up to 28 kHz. The hardware channels had independent volumes (65 levels) and sampling rates, and mixed down to two fully left and fully right stereo outputs
