Lotus Turbo Challenge 2 is an awesome arcade racing game and the second of the Lotus games that shifted focus towards the arcade-oriented gameplay. The game was released only for the Commodore Amiga, Atari ST, Acorn Archimedes home computers and the Sega Megadrive/Genesis console.
STORY / GAMEPLAY ) Lotus 2 is a wonderful arcade racing for the 16bit computers and consoles. It was initially developed for the Commodore Amiga OCS systems and later converted for the other 16bit platforms. It is considered a technically impressing game of its own genre. As in all the Lotus racing games, Lotus Turbo Challenge 2 is based around the renowned British car manufacturer, Lotus. As an improvement over its predecessor, Lotus 2 single-player mode uses a full screen instead of half and the opponent cars appear in a variety of colors (the opponent cars of the original game are all white!). your main goal is to drive your Lotus Esprit like hell and finish the race first (and within the time limit). The race tracks vary from highways to gravel roads and your opponents are quite skilled, so driving will become tougher as you proceed. Lotus 2 is an intense racing game, recommended for all racing games fans.
GRAPHICS / SOUND The Amiga version features really smooth and fast animation and the game's backgrounds are nicely detailed with plenty of colors (up to 32) on screen. The game runs faster compared to the ST counterpart, with the latter facing a few frame-rate problems. The Amiga's sound is excellent, sporting impressive car engine, braking and more sampled sound effects, but the most impressive part of the game's sound is the..... intro music; a memorable theme that's among the best Amiga tunes back in the days (comparably, the ST version offers a rather annoying-to-your-ears intro chip tune)!

CPU: Motorola MC68000 7.16 MHz MEMORY: 512KB of Chip RAM (OCS chipset - A500), 512 KB of Slow RAM or Trapdoor RAM can be added via the trapdoor expansion, up to 8 MB of Fast RAM or a Hard drive can be added via the side expansion slot. GRAPHICS: The OCS chipset (Amiga 500) features planar graphics (codename Denise custom chip), with up to 5 bit-planes (4 in hires), allowing 2, 4, 8, 16 and 32 color screens, from a 12bit RGB palette of 4096 colors. Resolutions varied from 320x256 (PAL, non-interlaced, up to 4096 colors) to 640x512 (interlace, up to 4 colors). Two special graphics modes where also included: Extra Half Bright with 64 colors and HAM with all 4096 colors on-screen. The ECS chipset models (Amiga 500+) offered same features but also extra high resolution screens up to 1280x512 pixels (4 colors at once). SOUND: (Paula) 4 hardware-mixed channels of 8-bit sound at up to 28 kHz.
