The game is largely based on the Indiana Jones movie Raiders of the Lost Ark. Set in 1945, British agent Rick Dangerous travels to the Amazon jungle to search for the lost Goolu tribe. His plane crashes in the jungle, and Rick must escape from the enraged Goolu. When the game starts Rick finds himself in a cave running from a rolling boulder, a famous scene from the Indiana Jones movie!
Rick can jump and climb, and carry a limited amount of bombs and ammunition for his gun. The gun is mostly used to shoot enemies, although most traps that can kill Rick can also kill his enemies if used correctly. The bombs are generally used for puzzle solving, such as blowing out certain blocks. A bit difficult to play though, but quite interesting gameplay.
The Amiga graphics are nice (similar to the ST). Although its simple level designs, graphics look great and follow the Indiana Jones-style picture. Sprites are cute and move relatively smooth on screen and the overall action fast. Each level has its own nice style (through Amazon jungles in South America, inside a Pyramid in Egypt, into the Schwarzendumpf castle and London).
The sound is excellent here, being of better quality due to Amiga's advanced sound hardware. It features a nice intro music theme, and a few funny digitized sound effects like Ricks' (and his enemies) baby screams when killed, explosions, gun fire etc. There are some short of tunes at the very start of each level too.
