Two planets that are in war with each other. On the planet Bacula, the Galden Tribe has overthrown the government and seized power over the whole world. They invade later to the peaceful planet of Mu and kidnapped Queen Sheeta. Armed with a vehicle of immense firepower, capable of leaping into the air to avoid ground hazards, you must destroy enemies on the ground and air. Shooting power pods scattered around the level allows the player to increase their firepower. The first level moves at a pretty fast pace and there's a lot of action. Unfortunately the pace of the second level slows down significantly, and it therefore takes a lot longer to reach the end of the level. The game is getting quite difficult at times, as it is way hard to avoid enemy fire or crashing onto the surroundings when trying to pass through very short pathways. Other than that, Last Duel is fun to play and offers plenty (but slow here) of action.
The graphics here are very nice indeed - detailed (especially level two offers some great backdrop details), with effective use of color, but vertical screen-scrolling is rather poor here and thus, the action is quite slow. Note that the C64 port runs smoother, but offers less interesting details at the backdrops. Although the sound effects are irritating in the CPC version, with typical shooting sounds etc, the intro music is rather good. The game would be better if the levels in which you fly the hover-plane were faster and (perhaps) shorter.
