Somewhere in the future you found yourself in the middle of a tank battle. There are no outstanding features to the game really, you just trundle your tank around the levels shooting anything that moves, until you come to the end of the level where a huge enemy awaits (a tank, a chopper etc). The further you go the better weapons you can collect as well as power-ups. Along your way you must avoid enemy mines too! It's as playable as you'd expect something this simple to be, and hard enough to be addictive too. Fun for a while but lacking lastability and cannot compared to the Ikari Warriors series gameplay I believe, but that doesn't stop Blazing Thunder from being a great little shoot em up.
The CPC version offers pretty good graphics, nicely drawn stages with a variety of enemies and colorful backgrounds to play against, much like the famous Ikari Warriors series. Sprites move fast in all eight directions whilst screen scrolls quite smooth upwards. A drawback would be the small playable area here though (much like the ZX Spectrum version).
The sound is typical with several sound effects such as cannon/machine gun -firing and explosions (but no music during gameplay).
