Switchblade is a sci-fi arcade action adventure game, which was initially released in 1989 for the Commodore Amiga, Atari ST and in 1990 for the 8bit ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64 and Amstrad CPC by Gremlin. The game was later ported in 1991 to the Amstrad CPC+ and Amstrad GX4000.

Review
SwitchbladeThe cyber world of Thraxx is about to enter a new era of darkness and despair. The dark lord of nightmares, Havok, having slept for 10.000 years has finally woken. The Fireblade has been broken, and it's sixteen pieces scattered through the underworld where Havok now reigns. The slaughter has begun, and all of the Bladeknights (hi0tech warriors of Traxx) are dead, except one.
The game is a cross between shoot 'em up and a platform gameplay (typically a platform-shooter) in which the level areas becomes visible as you progress and plays in flip-screen mode. You control Hiro (the only survived Bladeknight) through six levels who must reassemble the 16 fragments of the shattered Fireblade. Only then can he take on Havoc and avenge his peoples death. There are several enemies on your way who must be taken out by using your feasts or kicks but also with fire-arms found later. As you progress, you can find bonus weapons and secret rooms.

The GX4000 and CPC+ have really good graphics with detailed backgrounds (especially at the indoor areas) and smooth sprite animations although the sprites are really small! Note that the CPC+ uses more colors than the Commodore and original CPC versions (obviously, since the CPC+ has superior graphics hardware).
The sound is fine too, featuring a pretty good introductory theme and an interesting in-game music, but no sound effects.
