STORY / GAMEPLAY The year is 3037, your application has been accepted and you are on live TV watched by over a billion people! You must fly through 108 exciting missions and fight your way through enemy defenses. You have to control enemy airspace and destroy any terrestrial installations and command your formations through huge intergalactic battles over many different planets. You must earn enough to buy the ultimate killing machine, win cash prizes or even gamble your way to success. GRAPHICS / SOUND Star Fighter 3000 is technically one of the best games I've ever seen on the Acorn Archimedes. It features a smooth blend of fast texture mapping and realistic 3D images. The game offers full 3D environments, with smooth animation (much like a 386 PC running at 33MHz or so!) All the game's visuals are rendered at a color depth of 8 bits per pixel and a fixed resolution of 320 by 256, displaying 256 simultaneous colors, which is more suited to a TV or an early analogue RGB monitor, than a modern VGA monitor. The sound is also good, featuring a nice intro tune and impressive in-game sampled effects. | |
