Our hero is an almighty magician who must travel across hostile lands, looking for the missing potions, phials and scrolls of the Great Wizard, from the Marsh of Eternal Stench to Eden Garden and must fight various foes that block his way, from monks, trees, animals to even other magicians. To help you recover the missing magic, the Great Wizard has allowed you to use his magic against the natives of each location. Each spell being found and used along the way has a different effect: some will turn people into frogs while others transform them into stone, ash etc!
Mystical is a vertical scrolling shooter actually with tons of humor and nice effects. The screen moves by itself and all you have to do is to control your hero in every direction and shoot the bad guys or put some spells on them. You collect many potions and various books of magic that help you in many ways.
Mystical is a nice game but it gets boring after a while due to the repetitive gameplay and the lack of innovation.Graphics/Sound:
The graphics for the Atari ST version are quite good using a nice color palette and smooth enough sprite animation. Background scrolling though suffers a bit here, but it's playable enough whilst details are made by scattered stones, pits and the like.
The opening music is mainly composed and based on the flute and it sounds great. The sound FX are sampled all the way, from the basic shooting FX to the "blah blah blah" of our magician's reading of the spell books.
