Bub and Bob, two young boys, were cursed and turned into two small dinos. Now, they must fight their way through 100 levels of chaos, in order to save their girlfriends from the Giant Bee Master. Your main quest is to jump on the platforms and put in bubbles all of the baddies and vanish them. You gain many bonuses while hitting them, from points, level skips, and weapons (faster bubbles, longer bubbles, speed shoes etc). Also, you can fill the word EXTEND, which takes you to the next level at once. The game can be played in two-player mode (with a friend) which is recommended since the game needs co-operation in some levels. Bubble Bobble is one of the best arcade platforms for the past 25 years. I've played it in almost all available 8/16bit systems and really enjoyed it!
The C64 conversion is technically the best 8bit home-computer port. Although the Commodore's weird color palette, the graphics are pleasant and the action is pretty fast, resembling the playability of the original version. Each level is a typical platform with different colors, a variety of platform designs and several nicely drawn and animated sprites.
The C64 port features the original cute introductory and in-game themes too. SFX are typical for this kind of platfomers. Note that the Original tunes are also available only on the BBC Micro and ZX Spectrum systems running in 128k.
