God Of War, a game developed by SCEE in 2005, is one of the best games ever created for the Playstation 2, pushing its capabilities to the limit.
God Of WarThe story follows the adventures of Kratos, a former captain of the Spartan army, who committed suicide falling from a rock to the Aegean Sea. It takes you through the plot, with flashbacks from Kratos' life. Kratos' main quest is to locate and destroy Ares the God Of War who released an army to threaten Athens (the city protected by goddess Athena). The whole quest is pretty hard since you have to fight against other Gods, Titans, various monsters from the Ancient Greek Mythology such as The Hydra and multiple mortal Warriors. Apart from slaying, you have to solve puzzles and mysteries in order to go further. The good news is that your weapons can become stronger by using the powers of the Gods, with each and every power possessing its own virtues, cons and pros.

The graphics are outstanding, vivid and represent the ancient Greek mythology in such detail, that nobody could believe a PS2 could manage to achieve. Animation is so smooth and fluid no matter the numbers of foes on-screen. Camera perspective changes with zoom-ins and outs, making the game more intriguing and more challenging. The music, created by famous composers such as Gerard K. Marino, is at least epic and the sound FX used - plus the voice acting - are all superb. The game supports DTS and it is recommended to have a decent sound system to maximally enjoy its glory. God Of War is a fantastic game and one of my personal favorites.
