Robocop 2 is a side-scrolling multi-platform shoot em up, initially released for the arcades in 1990 by Data East, which follows the basic premise of the famous movie, supporting a two-player co-op gameplay. The game was later released for the home platforms such as the Nintendo NES, Gameboy, Atari ST, Commodore Amiga, Commodore 64, Amstrad GX4000/CPC+ etc. The NES conversion offers a classic side-scrolling left-to-right gameplay, whilst the rest versions offer both horizontal and vertical direction gameplay.
Robocop 2Nuke, the newly designed narcotic hits the streets of Detroit, and Robocop must stop this. The best way to do this is to raid all the safe-houses and factories which supply and produce Nuke and shoot everyone except the people in charge. Those must be arrested, not killed. Of course all Nuke found your way must be seized too.
Robocop needs to navigate through a set of platforming environments, making arrests and collecting drugs along the way. Arresting involves punching criminals until they fall over. Of course you can use your mighty mini-gun to take down villains. You should make enough arrest though, or otherwise at the end of a level, gameplay change its perspective in a first-person shooter-style (!) . Apart of the incoming villains or snipers at the windows, Robocop must cope with deadly gaps or water pits, which will instantly take his life. Most of the times, your desperate attempts to maneuver him safely to the next platform will eventually crush him down. There are irritatingly hard bosses as well as some test levels too.
Gameplay is rather difficult. Robocop's awkward inertia makes him uncontrollable especially when landing or making a jump just before or after a deadly gap. It slides a lot and often you plummet over the edge of a platform to certain death.
The game is instantly addictive, second it's quite lethal, and third offers some pretty cool graphics. Moving smoothly and precisely is a basic rule in this game, and this requires time to practice its otherwise awkward controls. Sometimes, the controls will always be too slow to respond.
Overall, the game is hard to play but pretty much addictive at the same time, and there are plenty of neat touches to keep you interested and loads of secret screens to discover.

Graphics are great, offering pretty nicely designed and big in size sprites, whilst city landscapes and factory/safe-house interiors are beautifully detailed. Colors are great whilst sprites and backdrops move fast and smooth. The test levels are a nice touch, in which perspective changes.
Sound is fine too, offering the original tunes takjen from the arcades (and the movie) along with a few SFX such as gun-fire and explosions that catch up with the atmosphere.
