STORY / GAMEPLAY Hercules, the legendary hero of Greek mythology sets his quest off to bring to goddess Athena the head of Medusa (a deformed female monster)! Medusa is able to turn any man into stone with her gaze! As Herceules, you must find Medusa for the final battle. But you must collect various artifacts first, are scattered around several ancient Greece cities, so you need to travel a lot and obtain each item by completing quests. The game starts from Thebes, your homeland, and expands to various other cities like Eleusis, Athens, Nemea, Pylos, Delphi etc. Each city has several enemies roaming around, from snakes and scorpions to lions and bulls or even worse Cerberus himself and so on! Hercules can travel those distances using a map that appears every time you reach the end (or going back to the start) of each area. You start your quest without a weapon but soon you'll find a club, a sword, a pike and a bow (the latter is provided by Athena) in order to eliminate threats. Athena is willing to heal your wounds as well or even give you some extra arrows. Note that each time you die (by losing all of your energy) you have to start all over again, so be careful! There are a few health bonuses here and there to collect! A quick hint here is to jump over small deadly creatures (such as snakes and scorpions), a method that'll save you valuable energy. GRAPHICS / SOUND The game's graphics look great with 16 colors and a variety of indoor and outdoor details from Ancient Greece. The sprites are well animated, although they move a bit slow and thus, the action is slow as well. The sound is adequate, featuring a few sound effects only and no in-game music at all. | |
