STORY / GAMEPLAY You are Marvin, a wizard's apprentice and your master Mr. Wandburner gives you a series of tasks to complete (basically fetching some item at the end of a level), spread out on six levels with three stages each. The story takes place inland, at the sea and in the air. In order to make your life easier in the aquatic levels, the wizard turns you into a frog. In order to fly, you're equipped with a special flying helmet. Each level has a new weapon for you to use, ranging from the traditional magic wand to a rubber ball, a water pistol and even a laser gun. As in any normal platform game, each level has an end boss to kill and between levels there are bonus rounds. The only critical remark is that it's just too tough at times and if you don't have any power ups, Marvin will die with one hit. In some parts it is nearly impossible to survive! The Apprentice is a brilliant platform game, although very difficult to finish!
GRAPHICS / SOUND This game features beautiful graphics and fast action! The levels are very colorful, with detailed cartoon-like sprites and backgrounds. The sprites' animation is fast and smooth and the sound is impressive, with CD-audio music tracks and (funny) sampled sound effects. | |
