Mutant Rampage: Bodyslam is a beat 'em up game that plays in the same fashion as Double Dragon and Streets of Rage, but with better graphics and sound (thanks to the console's graphics and CD-Audio capabilities).
Mutant Rampage: BodyslamSTORY / GAMEPLAY
The story takes place somewhere in 2068 where teams of mutant bionic warriors rule the ravaged capital cities of the world. You are one of the few non infected humans left and your mission is to beat the mutants up and triumph the Mutant Rampage. You can select your team with up to three playable characters, two muscular men and a woman, and then set off to kick the hell out all those mutant nasties. While playing, you may change fighter and utilize his (or her) unique special move. The control is good and quite responsive though sometimes it's difficult to perform the special moves (again due to the "clumsy" CD-i joypad!). The game looks easy at the beginning but as you progress some enemies are really annoying and too hard to hit (like the flying women and the robotic human-spiders). Mutant Rampage is one of the best games on the CD-i system taking into consideration its gameplay and presentation.

The game's graphics are impressive and they somehow resemble Sega Genesis beat 'em up games, but with loads of more simultaneous colors. The backgrounds are wonderful with nice, detailed drawings that give a 3D sense to the whole scene, but static most of the times. I also liked the sprite details, though their limited frame-rates. The sound is entertaining as it features a variety of CD-audio tracks along with a full pack of sampled, fighting sound effects.
