Beyond Dark Castle is the sequel to Dark Castle. It is a puzzle game that includes some action genre elements in the Castle's complex mazes! The game was initially released in 1987 for the Macintosh series and in 1989 it was ported to the Commodore 64, Apple IIGS and Commodore Amiga. Note that another game named Return to Dark Castle, was released in 2008!

Beyond Dark CastleSTORY / GAMEPLAY
You control Prince Duncan with a main mission to find the Five Magic Orbs and return them back to the Ante Room. Then you'll be ready to battle to the death against the evil Black Knight ruler of the Dark Castle. You start in the Great Hall in which you must choose one of the 5 available doors to enter the puzzle stages. Each stage is a true test towards your dexterity, reaction, alertness and, most of all, your nerves(!) Duncan runs, ducks, climbs and jumps as he fights off enemies through numerous scenes. The game's control involves both keyboard (for movement - direction keys) and mouse (for fighting). Many of the platforms are small, they move quickly and are at higher or lower levels so you must be extremely careful with your jumps. The ropes come in clusters of three and you are free to move back and forth between them in order to dodge falling enemies. You can also collect and drop bombs to destroy several enemies on each screen, including snakes, rats, bats, mutants and more. The game has 15 different stages! Beyond Dark Castle is a great platform puzzle game with lots of fun and a variety of puzzles to solve in order to survive and get to the final battle with Black Knight. Dark Castle runs on a Macintosh with at least 512K of RAM.

GRAPHICS / SOUND
The graphics look great! The sprites move quite smooth although the controls feel a bit awkward at times. Each level is nicely detailed but all of them are in black and white. The action includes a few sampled sound effects that create an eerie feeling of realism throughout the game.
