STORY / GAMEPLAY
Some years ago, a mad doctor and his creepy crew moved into a dilapidated ruin known as the "Creepy Castle". This creepy night there's a full Moon, bats are flying everywhere and the surrounding forest is swarmed by werewolves. The mad doctor kidnapped an innocent girl and your must start a quest to find and rescue her; along with killing the mad man. But the way is not easy at all! You'll have to battle hordes of creepy creatures to save their hopeless victim. The enemies vary from werewolves, ravens, ghouls, buzzards, spiders, skeletons to vampires and bats. There are four locations to choose from: the forest, the graveyard, the castle, and the dungeon. The game is made entirely in black and white. Your attacks include punches, kicks and throws while you can also pick up some projectile weapons (e.g. a gun with silver bullets), melee weapons (like an axe) as well as knives, rocks, and more. You must not forget to also collect power ups to increase your stamina! Apart from incoming monsters, there are several traps that you'll have to avoid (especially inside the castle). Creepy Castle is a pretty atmospheric and very playable game, offering fast arcade-style action. It is considered one of the best games released for the Macintosh home computers.
GRAPHICS / SOUND
The graphics are fantastic, with a variety of nicely drawn and animated sprites. All sprites are impressively done, while the screen scrolling is smooth. Each stage has its own awesome details and I just wish there was a color Macintosh to play this game once again! The devs made a really amazing job here! The sound follows the same high standards, offering sampled, high quality sound FX such as screams, kicks and punches, voices and many other ambient FX (like thunders for example). The music is another strong asset of the game, offering some nicely composed spooky tunes at the main menu and at the game over screen. Unfortunately, there is no music during gameplay (but in my opinion is not actually needed since the SFX really cover the game greatly!)
