STORY / GAMEPLAY After beating Umbrella Corp on the first Resident Evil, Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine believed that the main threat was over. But the T-Virus was still out there, spreading once more the disease and making dead people walk the Earth for a second time. Raccoon City is now infested with hundreds of undead creatures looking for blood. In Resident Evil 2 you control either Claire Redfield (Chris' sister) or a rookie cop called Leon Kennedy. Leon is a new-comer in Raccoon City's Police Department and he is already doomed to cope with zombies at his first ever assignment. The city is burning and the undead are crawling everywhere. After the fantastic game intro that show a car accident, Claire and Leon are separated so you have to control one person at a time, depending on the mission. They both must survive and find out how to destroy the T-Virus and, of course, send the undead back to hell once and for all. But this time the zombies are not their only enemies since tough creatures from Hell are hiding and lurking around many places, waiting to brutally kill whoever dares to face them. Confronting those monsters you'll need some strategy while each one is killed in different ways. As the story goes on, Claire and Leon will team up with two more survivors who'll become a great help. Resident Evil 2 uses the same formula of its predecessor so you will once more try to solve a variety of puzzles to proceed and collect many objects, combine herbs, upgrade weapons, carry more gear, ammo and health packs. But all these must be used wisely. The Save Game feature is the same with RE and you can save your progress each time a typewriter is available and provided that you already have an ink ribbon in your inventory. GRAPHICS / SOUND The game's visuals look awesome. with pre-rendered backgrounds, a great selection of dark colors and impressive characters made with a large number of polygons. Gore, blood, explosions, shooting and other goodies are very well placed in this game. As for its sound, the game surely freaks you out with its scary music scores and really creepy sound effects. If you play this game connecting your Playstation to an amplifier and dimming the lights, you'll feel as if you're taking part in an almostt real-life horror movie. Overall, Resident Evil 2 is one of the best survival horror games of the genre, hands down! | |
